Advancing Circular-Regenerative Agriculture Productivity (CRPI) for a Resilient Future

Our vision

Build globally resilient circular‑regenerative food systems that deliver profitable, nature‑based agricultural outcomes.

CPI Pillars and guiding principles.jpeg
We empower farmers, food chain, researchers, governments, auditors, NGOs, and all partners along the food chain with science‑based tools, models, and programs that accelerate the transition to circular‑regenerative agriculture.

Our food systems today use about 50% of global arable land and 70% of global fresh water, with 70% contribution to terrestrial biodiversity loss, 80% deforestation, 78% eutrophication, and 29% emissions while wasting one-third of the food we produce. Solving these inefficiencies is what drives our purpose and zeal for agri-food systems transformation that is based on scientific evidence and practical local practices.

Beside cost of production taking farmers out of business, we waste one-third (1/3) (1 out of every 3kg of food produced globally) after using all of these natural resources, with adverse implications on people, planet, and economy. This is over $1 trillion every year, with increasing cost of production, especially among small and medium farmers.

At Circular Planet Institute (CPI), we combine the science of circularity and regeneration into a single approach called circular-regenerative food systems. We believe solving today's climate, resource, and food security challenges demands systems transformation that closes resource loops while restoring ecosystems and building resilience at the same time.

We do this by deploying scientific models and tools that combine the science of circularity and regeneration to measure and guide production systems to improve circular-regenerative productivity that accounts for both system benefits and burden to nature, with market linkage through our verification program that provides value addition for premium.

FOUNDER'S NOTE

From Farm Boy to Food Systems Innovator

Circular Planet Institute is where my personal story meets global purpose — a place where science, community, and innovation gather for a circular-regenerative food future.

Dr. Isaac Mpanga

Founder, Circular Planet Institute

Dr. Isaac Mpanga grew up on a farm in Ghana, where soil wasn't just dirt — it was life. His journey from classroom teacher to scientist and executive has been driven by science, purpose, and a deep desire to transform food systems from linearity to circularity based on the lessons from his father's farm.

With an MS and PhD from the University of Hohenheim (Germany), a faculty position at the University of Arizona, and leadership roles at PepsiCo and Yara North America, Dr. Mpanga founded CPI in 2022 to bridge the gap between academic research and practical, global impact.

He is the author of Circular Agriculture book and currently teaches graduate-level course "Food System Transformation" at Unity Environmental University.
