Dr. Isaac Mpanga
Founder, Circular Planet Institute
I grew up on a farm in Ghana where my father practiced circular agriculture as illustrated in the image below—a place where soil wasn't just dirt, it was life. My journey from a farm in Ghana to becoming a classroom teacher, scientist, and executive has been driven by local knowledge, science, purpose, and a deep desire to transform food systems from linearity to closed loop circularity and regeneration.
After completing my MS in Crop Sciences and PhD in Agronomy at the University of Hohenheim (Germany), I joined the faculty at the University of Arizona and led USDA-funded research programs. I later worked with global leaders like PepsiCo and Yara North America, applying scientific insights to real-world agriculture at scale, incorporating local knowledge through a scientific lens. The reason circular agriculture is not a common practice in our food systems today remained a question I look to change through innovation and science with local and internations partners, which became the genesis of the Circular Plant Institute.
I founded CPI in 2022 to bridge the gap between academic research and practical, global impact — grounded in the principles of my book, Circular Agriculture, and inspired by the soil I first tilled as a child.
